2.9 Math Problem Solving

 Today's lesson dealt with problem solving. The homework is a review of chapter two concepts on division. 

Math 2.6: Divide by 2 Digit Divisors

Parents,

This lesson has students using the normal division algorithm. However, the students are not responsible for using this strategy until sixth grade. This lesson gave us an opportunity to practice the partial quotient strategy again. This can be seen with the video below, if needed.

Math 2.3 - Division with 2 Digit Divisors

Today we looked at division with two digit divisors using based ten blocks and then drawing them. They can also use the partial quotient strategy if they are not comfortable drawing the base ten blocks. 

Math 2.2 Divide by One Digit Divisors

Students practiced the partial quotient strategy with this lesson since they are not responsible for using the normal division algorithm until 6th grade.

Math 1.12 Algebra: Grouping Symbols

Tonight's homework is similar to last night's homework only brackets and braces were added to the numerical expressions. The video below should help you assist your child, if needed.

The homework varies greatly tonight depending on what math teacher your child has. Mr. Utter's students completed math lesson 10.6 on problem solving using customary and metric conversions. The homework is pg. 621 and every fifth grade student has the three problem practice sheet on our SMART goal. The video below will assist you, if needed.
