Nov.26, 2018

Parents,

The math homework tonight is in the blue PARCC book on pg.19-22 which is practice on multiplication and division that we have covered in this unit. This is practice in preparation for the Unit 2 math test this Wednesday. We are doing more review in class tomorrow, as well.

Math:
Students will practice multiplication and division tomorrow during class and have a study guide to finish up for homework if it is not complete. The unit 2 test will be on Wednesday. On Thursday and Friday, we will be starting a new math unit on chapter 12 on measurement completing lessons 12.1 and 12.2.

Science/ Social Studies:
Students are continuing a new science unit on energy, specifically on electricity. They will study what conductors and insulators are.

Language Arts:
Students will continue unit 3 on nature on identifying and describing how an informative report is organized, identifying personification in text, comparing and contrasting first person narrative points of view, ordering adjectives within sentences, explaining how to identify descriptive, literary language in text, use key details to summarize the main idea, using a writing checklist to guide the planning of writing, identifying and analyzing figurative language, identifying and analyzing facts and details from a print source text, using understanding of point of view to answer a close reading question, identifying and pronouncing vowel team syllables in words, and organizing notes by categorizing information.

Important Dates

Nov. 27th
Fall Photo Retake Day

Nov. 28th
Unit 2 Math Test (Check out study guide that will go home tomorrow)

Reminder: We are looking at doing a fun festive activity building gingerbread houses and doing a funny gift exchange next month. (More details to come soon)
There are still some students who are struggling with their multiplication facts. Please practice them at home.

Grading:
This year your child will have letter grades on their report cards.  It is important for you to review the papers that come home with your child on a regular basis. If your child has a C or below on an assignment, please help reinforce the concepts and have your child redo the assignment.  Sometimes you may also see a 1-4 score on your child’s paper. This type of score reflects a rubric score for the assignment. See the grade equivalents below:

4-A, 3-B, 2-C, 1-D or Below

Interims will keep you informed of your child’s current grades. The first interim, however, will be very general since only a few grades will be given by that date.

Homework:
Please check your child’s homework notebook for daily homework assignments.  The basic nightly routine will be 20 minutes of reading AND a math assignment.  The math will be the homework pages in the math workbook that correlate with the daily lesson OR a Think Central assignment.  Your child should have the pages written down in their notebooks. Mr. Utter will also post daily assignments with how to videos on the G-Force blog.

Snack:
Fourth grade students have a very early lunch this year, so we will not have a snack time.  Our time is limited in the afternoon due to recess and specials. Please make sure your child eats a sufficient amount of lunch to get them through the school day.
