The math homework is an assignment on Think Central where students will log in and click on assignments. You will find this week's content we will be covering, important dates, and reminders below.
Math:
Students are working on unit 8 on reviewing concepts that were learned this year. This week students will find factors of multiples of 10, 100, and 1,000; adding fractions when one denominator is a multiple of another; writing division problems as fractions; and finding the product of three factors.
Science/ Social Studies:
Students will continue to work on the Smithsonian PBL. They are still working on the next "theme" on biogeology. This will entail learning about the economy of a region by researching important events that took place in the region and its natural resources, geography, and industries.
Language Arts:
Students are continuing unit (8) on Earth changes. This week they will be working on: use text evidence to explain how earthquakes and volcanoes are related; integrate information from two texts; correctly use relative adverbs; share information I have learned about Earth changes; identify features of firsthand accounts; explain how firsthand accounts are different from informational texts; read to identify and annotate key events; distinguish between important and unimportant information; use a variety of sentence beginnings to make my writing flow; recognize and use science vocabulary; compare and contrast information presented visually and in a text; identify details that relate to a visual presentation; use my knowledge of variant vowel sounds to read more words accurately; sort words according to their variant vowel spelling patterns; and edit my informative report for the correct use of modal auxiliaries.
Important Dates

Normal Early Dismissal

Field Day
New: The first draft of the informative report on a science topic is due this Friday. Send in money if you are purchasing student or class pictures. If your child has completed their reading log for the month, they will earn free pizza via the Book It! program.
Grading:
This year your child will have letter grades on their report cards. It is important for you to review the papers that come home with your child on a regular basis. If your child has a C or below on an assignment, please help reinforce the concepts and have your child redo the assignment. Sometimes you may also see a 1-4 score on your child’s paper. This type of score reflects a rubric score for the assignment. See the grade equivalents below:
4-A, 3-B, 2-C, 1-D or Below
Interims will keep you informed of your child’s current grades. The first interim, however, will be very general since only a few grades will be given by that date.
Homework:
Please check your child’s homework notebook for daily homework assignments. The basic nightly routine will be 20 minutes of reading AND a math assignment. The math will be the homework pages in the math workbook that correlate with the daily lesson OR a Think Central assignment. Your child should have the pages written down in their notebooks. Mr. Utter will also post daily assignments with how to videos on the G-Force blog.
Snack:
Fourth grade students have a very early lunch this year, so we will not have a snack time. Our time is limited in the afternoon due to recess and specials. Please make sure your child eats a sufficient amount of lunch to get them through the school day.
