6.2 Subtracting Fractions using Models and Unlike Denominators

The homework tonight is on subtracting fractions with unlike denominators. They are using fraction strips to find the common denominators in order to subtract them. We will be teaching the students how to convert and make equivalent fractions using a fraction of one soon. The modeling was done first to give a visual for the students. 5.6 Divide Decimals

Today's math lesson had students dividing decimals by decimals. Students were instructed to move the decimal in the divisor over and then do the same in the dividend. Then students would use the partial product strategy to find the quotient and add the decimal, if needed, at the end.

5.4 Division of Decimals by Whole Numbers

We reviewed this lesson again today on the division of decimals by whole numbers. I want to emphasize that students are not responsible for calculating the answer using the normal division algorithm. Thus, the students are taught to use the Partial Quotient strategy and then plug in the decimal point at the end. An example of the Partial Quotient strategy is below.
