Parents,

The math homework tonight is finishing the review on chapter 13 on perimeter and area. The students started it during review stations today in math. The page numbers they need to finish up are on pg.749 - 754.

Due to the inclement weather yesterday, the math test on unit 3 (chapters 12 and 13) has been pushed to Thursday. We will finish review tomorrow and the students will receive a study guide for the test. Please review that with your child tomorrow.

Math:
Students completed review today and will finish up the review tomorrow. The homerooms rotated each day to a different studio to complete review activities. Mrs. Ward did review on perimeter and area. Mrs. Hamill completed review on customary measurement and Mr. Utter had activities on the metric system and elapsed time.

Science/ Social Studies:
Students are continuing a new project on regions. They will be researching information and coming up with artifacts that visitors will read and see when the "museum" is open. They will also be building artifacts that correlate with the standard. The "theme" they are starting with is Native American art and architecture from the five regions of the U.S.

Language Arts:
Students are continuing to learn new skills in unit 4. They will be working on: drawing inferences from details in the text, drawing on knowledge of the story, applying grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words with a vowel-consonant-e syllable pattern. using context to determine the meaning of a word, using knowledge of letter-sound connections and syllable patterns to read unfamiliar words or more than one syllable, explaining the different information that can be presented from the first and third person point of view, developing reasons for my opinion based on a text, gathering facts and details from a text to support my reasons, comparing and contrasting narrative points of view, correctly using frequently confused words, and using reference materials to check my spelling.

New: Friday is a day to make sure students have all their work caught up and turned in.  Friday afternoons from 2:30-2:50 may be used as an incentive for the students who have finished ALL work where students who are caught up with all assignments will be given free time!!!

Grading:
This year your child will have letter grades on their report cards.  It is important for you to review the papers that come home with your child on a regular basis. If your child has a C or below on an assignment, please help reinforce the concepts and have your child redo the assignment.  Sometimes you may also see a 1-4 score on your child’s paper. This type of score reflects a rubric score for the assignment. See the grade equivalents below:

4-A, 3-B, 2-C, 1-D or Below

Interims will keep you informed of your child’s current grades. The first interim, however, will be very general since only a few grades will be given by that date.

Homework:
Please check your child’s homework notebook for daily homework assignments.  The basic nightly routine will be 20 minutes of reading AND a math assignment.  The math will be the homework pages in the math workbook that correlate with the daily lesson OR a Think Central assignment.  Your child should have the pages written down in their notebooks. Mr. Utter will also post daily assignments with how to videos on the G-Force blog.

Snack:
Fourth grade students have a very early lunch this year, so we will not have a snack time.  Our time is limited in the afternoon due to recess and specials. Please make sure your child eats a sufficient amount of lunch to get them through the school day.
