Feb. 19, 2019

Parents,

The students have homework in lesson 7.4 on subtracting fractions using models. The homework is pg.407 - 408. This week's curriculum objectives, important dates, and reminders can be found below. There is a tutorial below to assist you, if needed.

Math:
Students completed 7.4 today on subtracting fractions using models, will be completing 7.5 on adding and subtracting fractions tomorrow, and we will spend two days on Thursday and Friday on adding and subtracting mixed numbers.

Science/ Social Studies:
They are finishing up the theme on storytelling of an important event that happened in their region. They have written about two important events and now will choose one of them speaking from the first person point of view as if they were at the event, and will explain what they saw and what happened.

Language Arts:
Students are learning new skills in unit 5. They will be working on: read to identify and annotate examples of reasons and evidence that support an author's point; use understanding of reasons and evidence to answer a close reading question; understand and recognize r-controlled vowels in a text, and to pronounce unfamiliar words; restate my opinion in a concluding statement; write a conclusion; read to identify and annotate details to integrate information from two texts; compare two texts and analyze them to find the same type of information; correctly use the future progressive verb tense; correctly use other progressive verb tenses; share information I have learned about green technology; explain how green technology affects me and why it is important; consider how readers analyze key details and main ideas; discuss how authors use reasons and evidence in their writing; use key details to summarize the main idea; generate a list of science words related to my topic; and revise my essay to include science technology;

Important Dates

Feb. 20th
Normal Early Dismissal

New: There has been an increasing trend in off-task behaviors across the grade level and we are working on going back to basics with behavioral expectations. We would appreciate your parental support in reminding your child to SOAR in school to ensure students are learning during the school day.

Grading:
This year your child will have letter grades on their report cards.  It is important for you to review the papers that come home with your child on a regular basis. If your child has a C or below on an assignment, please help reinforce the concepts and have your child redo the assignment.  Sometimes you may also see a 1-4 score on your child’s paper. This type of score reflects a rubric score for the assignment. See the grade equivalents below:

4-A, 3-B, 2-C, 1-D or Below

Interims will keep you informed of your child’s current grades. The first interim, however, will be very general since only a few grades will be given by that date.

Homework:
Please check your child’s homework notebook for daily homework assignments.  The basic nightly routine will be 20 minutes of reading AND a math assignment.  The math will be the homework pages in the math workbook that correlate with the daily lesson OR a Think Central assignment.  Your child should have the pages written down in their notebooks. Mr. Utter will also post daily assignments with how to videos on the G-Force blog.

Snack:
Fourth grade students have a very early lunch this year, so we will not have a snack time.  Our time is limited in the afternoon due to recess and specials. Please make sure your child eats a sufficient amount of lunch to get them through the school day.
