Parents,

The students have homework in lesson 7.7 on adding and subtracting mixed numbers. The homework is pg.427-428. This week's curriculum objectives, important dates, and reminders can be found below. There is a tutorial below to assist you, if needed.

Math:
Students reviewed 7.7 today on adding and subtracting mixed numbers, will be completing standard 4NF.5 on expressing equivalent fractions, 7.10 on problem solving, and Line Plots, 12.5, on Thursday and Friday. We will review the unit next Monday and test on Tuesday.

Science/ Social Studies:
They are finishing up the theme on storytelling of an important event that happened in their region. They have written about two important events and now will choose one of them speaking from the first person point of view as if they were at the event, and will explain what they saw and what happened.

Language Arts:
Students are learning new skills in unit 5. They will be working on: read to identify and annotate key details and the main idea; use key details to summarize the main idea; explain how authors use reasons and evidence to support their points; identify reasons and evidence used to support a point in two separate texts; revise my essay to include prepositional phrases to add detail; read to identify and annotate evidence from a text; evaluate text evidence to answer a close reading question; use knowledge of r-controlled vowels to pronounce words; identify r-controlled vowels in a text; edit my essay to improve the structure of my paragraphs; evaluate an author's use of evidence to answer a close reading question; understand the form and use of progressive verb tenses; edit my essay for correct form and use of progressive verb tenses; integrate information from two texts to speak knowledgeably on a topic; assess my writing using a rubric; share my prior knowledge about the Essential Question; read on-level texts with purpose and understanding; read to identify key story events; write a summary; and read and analyze the features of a narrative journal entry.

New: There has been an increasing trend in off-task behaviors across the grade level and we are working on going back to basics with behavioral expectations. We would appreciate your parental support in reminding your child to SOAR in school to ensure students are learning during the school day.

Grading:
This year your child will have letter grades on their report cards.  It is important for you to review the papers that come home with your child on a regular basis. If your child has a C or below on an assignment, please help reinforce the concepts and have your child redo the assignment.  Sometimes you may also see a 1-4 score on your child’s paper. This type of score reflects a rubric score for the assignment. See the grade equivalents below:

4-A, 3-B, 2-C, 1-D or Below

Interims will keep you informed of your child’s current grades. The first interim, however, will be very general since only a few grades will be given by that date.

Homework:
Please check your child’s homework notebook for daily homework assignments.  The basic nightly routine will be 20 minutes of reading AND a math assignment.  The math will be the homework pages in the math workbook that correlate with the daily lesson OR a Think Central assignment.  Your child should have the pages written down in their notebooks. Mr. Utter will also post daily assignments with how to videos on the G-Force blog.

Snack:
Fourth grade students have a very early lunch this year, so we will not have a snack time.  Our time is limited in the afternoon due to recess and specials. Please make sure your child eats a sufficient amount of lunch to get them through the school day.
