Parents,

We did not assign any math homework tonight or any night this week. We are working on unit 8 in math which is preparing students for the fifth grade. This will consist of problem solving tasks, reviewing concepts from this year, and introducing some concepts that they will see next year. This week's G Force Gazette is listed down below. Educational Targets:
Math:
Students will start unit 8 which are math concepts to prepare our students for fifth grade next year. This will consist of problem solving, review of some concepts learned this year, and touching on concepts they will learn next year.
Science/ Social Studies:
We are bouncing back to science where we will do activities on the unit called Soils, Rocks, and Landforms. They will identify types of soil and what is found in them, do an activity to understand how rocks break down, and complete an activity to understand how acid rain effects rocks.
Language Arts:
Groups will be finishing up their literature circle project of their choice on the book they read earlier. They will also be required to finish last week’s grammar skill on adverbs. The reading comprehension skill this week is still drawing conclusions. For writing, some students are finishing up the publishing of their poetry books while others are selecting a writing choice activity to work on that is due this Friday.

There is no homework on Think Central tonight. Instead, we asked students to finish up the math review on chapter 8 if they didn't finish it during class which was pg.487 - 492. If it is done, they can still review chapters 8 and 9 in preparation for the test tomorrow. Have a good night.

Students will finish up unit 7 on chapter 8 doing lessons 8.4 and 8.5 on multiplying a fraction or mixed number by a whole number and problem solving that involves comparison problems with fractions.
Science/ Social Studies:
We will finish a culminating project on regions that include the major geographic features, resources, industry, and an important historical event. They will finish transfer their research to their poster.
Language Arts:
Since the groups are done with their literature circle jobs and have finished reading the book, each group will select a project to complete about the story to work on as a group. They will also be required to still complete work on this week’s grammar skill on adverbs. The reading comprehension skill this week is still drawing conclusions. For writing, some students are finishing up the publishing of their poetry books while others are selecting a writing choice activity to work on.

Parents,

When we planned the math lessons for this week we forgot that we needed to have the students complete the EOY (End of Year) Math Assessment. On the G Force Gazette we said that we were completing 8.3 today. Due to testing, we will do 8.3 tomorrow and we finished the math test today so there is NO math homework tonight.

Parents,

Tonight's homework is pg. 459 - 460 in their math book on multiples of a unit fraction, lesson 8.1. They are simply asked to decompose the fraction. For example, 4/5 is equal to 4 X 1/5. We are multiplying the unit fraction, 1/5 by the whole number of 4, to get 4/5. This week's G Force Gazette is below. Thank you and have a good night.

A big thanks to our PEA for all you did for Teacher Appreciation last week and for the other many things you do to help make Crossroads successful!

Educational Targets:
Math:
Students will continue unit 7, chapter 8 on multiplying fractions by whole numbers. We will work specifically on lessons 8.1 - 8.4 this week on multiples of unit fractions, multiples of fractions, multiplying a fraction by a whole number using models, and multiplying a fraction or mixed number by a whole number.
Science/ Social Studies:
We will continue a culminating project on regions that include the major geographic features, resources, industry, and an important historical event. We hope they will be completing the research soon so they can transfer it to a poster to present.
Language Arts:
We are finishing our literature circles this week. We will meet to share our job that we completed for the designated pages that were read for the last week. They will also be required to still complete work on this week’s grammar skill on adverbs. The reading comprehension skill this week is drawing conclusions. For writing, they will finish their poetry by completing 8 different types of poetry, getting them edited, and then publishing them in a poetry book.

We will finish the lapbook on a Native American tribe from a region of their choosing. We will begin a culminating project on regions that include the major geographic features, resources, industry, and an important historical event.

Language Arts:
We are continuing our literature circles this week. We will meet to share our job that we completed for the designated pages that were read for the fifth week. Then they will receive a new job to complete with the next set of pages to be read. They will also be required to still complete work on this week’s grammar skill on comparative and superlative adjectives. The reading comprehension skill this week is still sequencing. For writing, they will continue to work on different types of poetry.
