May 14, 2018

Parents,

Tonight's homework is pg. 459 - 460 in their math book on multiples of a unit fraction, lesson 8.1. They are simply asked to decompose the fraction. For example, 4/5 is equal to 4 X 1/5. We are multiplying the unit fraction, 1/5 by the whole number of 4, to get 4/5. This week's G Force Gazette is below. Thank you and have a good night.

Educational Targets:
Math:
Students will continue unit 7, chapter 8 on multiplying fractions by whole numbers. We will work specifically on lessons 8.1 - 8.4 this week on multiples of unit fractions, multiples of fractions, multiplying a fraction by a whole number using models, and multiplying a fraction or mixed number by a whole number.
Science/ Social Studies:
We will continue a culminating project on regions that include the major geographic features, resources, industry, and an important historical event. We hope they will be completing the research soon so they can transfer it to a poster to present.
Language Arts:
We are finishing our literature circles this week. We will meet to share our job that we completed for the designated pages that were read for the last week. They will also be required to still complete work on this week’s grammar skill on adverbs. The reading comprehension skill this week is drawing conclusions. For writing, they will finish their poetry by completing 8 different types of poetry, getting them edited, and then publishing them in a poetry book.
