Parents,

The students learned about adding hundredths of a fraction by converting tenths into hundredths and then adding them. Their homework is Lesson 12 which was material they need to know that was not in their Go Math book. The following video will assist you, if needed. This week's G Force Gazette is posted below.

Educational Targets:
Math:
Students will be learning fractional tenths and hundredths, subtracting fractions using models, and adding and subtracting mixed numbers.

Science/ Social Studies:
We are bouncing back to science, specifically magnets. They are learning about what objects are attracted to magnets and magnetic fields.

Language Arts:
Their reading comprehension skill this week is graphic sources as we read the story Eye of the Storm. The grammar skill is past, present, and future tense verbs and they will be writing a fantasy story.

There is no math homework tonight due to us doing some review stations in math today. Hopefully by now your child knows their multiplication facts or they can continue to practice them. Educational Targets:
Math:
Students will be reviewing math concepts in stations on equivalent fractions and decomposing fractions. On Thursday we will be covering 7.3 on adding fractions using models and we will have our last PARCC practice test on Friday.

Science/ Social Studies:
We are learning about government, specifically the branches, the levels, the constitution, Bill of Rights, and a few other concepts. They are pretending to be either the mayor, governor, or president where they choose a few changes to make and write it in a brochure to their fellow citizens.

Language Arts:
Their reading comprehension skill this week is still making generalizations  while we read different articles. The grammar skill is subject verb agreement and they will also be answering different writing prompts throughout the week.

Parents,

The students need to complete some review problems in preparation for the test this Friday on all of chapter 6 and three lessons from chapter 7. They started the work during class but need to finish any problems for homework that they didn't finish in class. The problems they had to do are: # 5, 6, 7, 15, 16, 19, and 21 from pg. 447 - 452 and # 1 - 18 from pg.377 - 382. Thank you.

Parents,

The homework tonight is on changing a mixed fraction to a fraction greater than 1 and changing a fraction greater than 1 to a mixed fraction. You probably grew up with it being called, "changing a mixed fraction to an improper fraction and an improper fraction to a mixed fraction." We taught them the strategy you learned growing up and the Go Math strategy. The video below should help you assist your child, if needed.

Due to the two hour delay and the PARCC practice last week, we will be completing a few lessons that we intended on completing last week. We are going over 7.2, 7.6, review for the test on chapter 6 and a few lessons in chapter 7, another PARCC practice test, and the test. The two lessons this week are on writing fractions as sums and renaming fractions and mixed numbers.

Science/ Social Studies:

The students do not have math homework again tonight due to the PARCC practice testing that we were scheduled to take today during our math block. We will have another practice session one day next week and one more the following week. Sorry for the confusion that this has created due to the changes from what the G Force Gazette has said. Yesterday the two hour delay threw everything off and we forgot about the scheduled testing today.
